Nota d'usoI sostantivi come jury sono chiamati collettivi perché indicano un gruppo di persone. In inglese possono essere seguiti dal verbo al singolare o al plurale, a seconda del contesto. In generale, se si pensa al sostantivo in modo impersonale, si sceglie il singolare: The jury is made up of 12 members of the public, la giuria è composta da 12 membri del pubblico. Se invece si pensa alle singole persone che fanno cose diverse all'interno del gruppo, si sceglie il plurale: The jury have reached their decision, la giuria è arrivata alla propria decisione. Si noti che quando il verbo è al singolare, un'eventuale proposizione relativa sarà introdotta da which o that, mentre se il verbo è al plurale, poiché si pensa alle persone, si ricorre a who. -

Esperar tiene tres significados básicos, que corresponden a tres verbos ingleses:
Aguardar, en sentido general, se traduce por to wait: Llevo media hora esperándote, I've been waiting for you for half an hour.
Tener esperanza, desear, se traduce por to hope: Espero que vengas mañana. I hope you will come tomorrow. Espero que sí. I hope so.
Suponer, esperar algo sabiendo que es muy probable que ocurra, se traduce por to expect: Espero la visita de un amigo (sabemos que va a venir). I'm expecting a friend to call.
